Red wine has been produced for thousands of years. The oldest known possible evidence for the use of grapes as part of a wine recipe with fermented rice and honey was in China, about 9,000 years ago. As we all know, wine is made from grapes. After grapes are harvested, they are placed in a clean container and crushed. Once the grapes have been crushed, these yeasts (or artificial yeasts added by the winemaker) interact with the sugar in the grape juice to produce alcohol, a process known as fermentation. Wines can be grouped into the six primary categories: white wines, red wines, rosé wines, sparkling wines, dessert wines and fortified wines. The alcohol content usually ranges from 12–15%. Red wine, in moderation, has long been thought of as heart healthy. Something in red wine called resveratrol might be heart healthy. Resveratrol is a polyphenol which may reduce cardiovascular and cancer risks and improve blood sugars. Various studies have shown that moderate amounts of all types of alcohol benefit your heart, not just alcohol found in red wine. The alcohol and certain substances in red wine called antioxidants may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) and protecting against artery damage. Wine is part of the Mediterranean diet, which is also rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, legumes, seafood, yogurt, and olive oil. This diet is more of a lifestyle that includes drinking wine with dinner. Studies show that the Mediterranean diet is associated with longer, healthier lives. Health Risks
Drinking wine (alcohol) can also have some negative side effects. Esspecially when you consuming too much wine can cause devastating health effects such as : weight gain (obesity), depression risk, liver cirrhosis, alcohol dependence, heart attack, stroke or chronic blood pressure, hypertension and even sudden death. Drinking wine or any form of alcohol while pregnant may have long-term effects on a child. If exposed to alcohol, unborn babies may suffer a number of negative side effects, which will influence their physical and mental health: odd facial features, smaller size in comparison to other children of their age, learning and behavior problems etc.
The Harvard researchers found that while drinking alcohol is linked with a higher risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, the danger wears off after 24 hour for people who only drink a glass or two. After the 24 hours have passed, the moderate alcohol intake can improve blood flow, blood vessels’ lining function and reduce clotting.
